The 7 symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis (AS)

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a type of inflammatory arthritis that primarily affects the spine, but can also affect other parts of the body such as the hips, shoulders, and ribs.

The seven common symptoms of AS are:

  1. Persistent low back pain and stiffness, particularly in the morning or after a period of inactivity
  2. Pain and stiffness in the neck, hips, shoulders, and ribs
  3. Loss of flexibility in the spine, leading to a hunched posture
  4. Fatigue
  5. Inflammation of the eyes (iritis or uveitis)
  6. Enthesitis (inflammation of the point where tendons or ligaments attach to bone)
  7. Extra-articular manifestations (other symptoms occur outside the joints) such as fever, weight loss, and fatigue

It's worth noting that symptoms can vary widely from person to person, and some people may experience only a few of these symptoms, or none at all.
